The rebuild process

What an engine rebuild involves

A rebuild restores your original engine to reliable, near-new condition — a cost-effective alternative to a brand-new unit.

01

Strip & inspect

The engine is fully dismantled and every component assessed to find the root cause.

02

Replace worn parts

Worn or damaged components are replaced with quality parts and tolerances checked.

03

Re-manufacture

The engine is rebuilt to match OEM specification for long-term reliability.

04

Test & fit

Every rebuild is tested before it goes back into your vehicle or ships to you.

Pricing

What does a Hyundai or Kia engine rebuild cost?

Rebuild pricing depends entirely on what the teardown reveals — but you should never have to guess. Here is how we quote it.

From ~$4,000*Typical full rebuild of a Hyundai or Kia four-cylinder
From $3,999Tested reconditioned replacement engine, if that is the smarter option
Fixed quoteConfirmed after inspection and teardown — both options priced side by side
12 monthsProduct warranty on every reconditioned engine we supply

A proper rebuild — machining, new bearings, rings, gaskets, timing components and testing — often lands in a similar range to a tested replacement engine. That is why we always quote both paths after inspecting your engine: sometimes a rebuild is clearly worth it (a rare engine, a vehicle you plan to keep for years), and sometimes a reconditioned changeover engine gets you back on the road faster for the same money. We will give you the numbers for both and let you decide.

Common questions

Engine rebuild FAQs

How much does an engine rebuild cost in Australia?

For common Hyundai and Kia four-cylinder engines, a full rebuild typically starts around $4,000 including machining, parts and labour, depending on the damage found at teardown. We confirm a fixed quote after inspection and always price a reconditioned replacement engine alongside it for comparison.

Is it better to rebuild or replace my engine?

If the block and crank are sound and the vehicle is worth keeping, a rebuild can be excellent value. If there is severe internal damage, a tested reconditioned engine (from $3,999 on a changeover basis) is usually faster and more economical. We quote both so you can decide with real numbers.

How long does an engine rebuild take?

Longer than a changeover — typically one to two weeks depending on machining and parts availability. If you need the car back sooner, a supply-and-fit changeover engine is usually a two-to-three-day job once the engine is on hand.

Is a high-kilometre Hyundai or Kia engine worth rebuilding?

Often yes — oil consumption and bearing wear on the Nu and Theta families are well understood, and a rebuild addresses the known weak points. The deciding factor is usually the condition of the block and crankshaft, which we confirm at teardown.

Do rebuilt engines come with a warranty?

Yes. Reconditioned engines we supply carry a 12-month product warranty, and our rebuild work is warranty backed — ask us for the details for your specific job when we quote.
