The Hyundai Tucson TL (2015–2020) sold in huge numbers in Australia, and the two petrol engines that come to us most often are the Nu G4NC 2.0L GDI in the Active and Active X, and the Gamma G4FJ 1.6L turbo GDI in the Elite and Highlander. Both are direct-injection engines, so carbon build-up and oil consumption are the usual story, and the 1.6 turbo adds its own turbo and high-pressure fuel pump wear.
We supply reconditioned engines for both codes, rebuilt in our Dandenong workshop with new wear components and tested before dispatch, with a 12-month product warranty. If your Tucson is a 2021-on NX4 or an older JM, call us with the VIN; we can usually source or rebuild those too.

How we recondition a Hyundai Tucson engine
Reconditioned means rebuilt and tested, not cleaned and resold. This is the process every engine on this page goes through.
- Strip and inspectThe engine is fully dismantled, cleaned and measured. Cracked blocks and heads are rejected, not repaired.
- MachineBores honed or re-sleeved, crank ground or polished, head faced and pressure tested, valves and seats cut.
- New wear componentsBearings, rings, seals, gaskets, timing chain, guides and tensioner replaced with new parts. Oil pump and water pump checked or replaced.
- Assemble to specBuilt to factory clearances and torque settings by technicians who only work on Hyundai and Kia engines.
- TestCompression and leak-down tested before dispatch, so the engine leaves proven, not assumed.
- Warranty and support12-month product warranty, with fitment and installation advice for your mechanic by phone.
The engine is supplied as a long engine: block, crank, rods, pistons, head and timing components. Alternator, starter, manifolds, turbo (where fitted) and sensors transfer from your old engine. Read reconditioned vs second-hand engines and what the warranty covers.

Is it the engine? Hyundai Tucson engine problems
Tucson owners usually ring us about one of three things: oil consumption that has crept up to a litre between services, a bottom-end knock on the 2.0 GDI, or a 1.6 turbo that has lost boost and started using oil. Carbon on the intake valves causes rough idle and misfires on both engines and is often misdiagnosed as an ignition fault. Once the bearings are noisy, a reconditioned engine is cheaper than rebuilding the damaged one.
